ABS Warning Light
The ABS warning light means the anti-lock braking system isn’t working properly. If the ABS dashboard light is on, your vehicle may not be able to stop quickly.
Anti-lock Braking System was designed to help the driver maintain steering capability and avoid skidding while braking. Since the ABS will not allow the tire to lock up and skid, you can brake and steer at the same time. The braking and steering ability of the vehicle is limited by the amount of traction the tire can generate.
When you start your vehicle, an ABS indicator symbol will illuminate briefly on the instrument panel. Your system is checking the status of the ABS sensors, the dashboard symbol normally illuminates when your vehicle is started.
- If your ABS system is not functioning properly, the ABS light on the instrument panel will stay illuminated. You should still have a basic brake system; however, you may not be able to make an emergency stop
- The ABS light will also stay on if your brake fluid level is low.
- Check your vehicle owner’s manual for more information.
