The ABS warning light means the anti-lock braking system isn’t working properly. If the ABS dashboard light is on, your vehicle may not be able to stop quickly.

Anti-lock Braking System was designed to help the driver maintain steering capability and avoid skidding while braking. Since the ABS will not allow the tire to lock up and skid, you can brake and steer at the same time. The braking and steering ability of the vehicle is limited by the amount of traction the tire can generate.

When you start your vehicle, an ABS indicator symbol will illuminate briefly on the instrument panel. Your system is checking the status of the ABS sensors, the dashboard symbol normally illuminates when your vehicle is started.

If your ABS system is not functioning properly, the ABS light on the instrument panel will stay illuminated. You should still have a basic brake system; however, you may not be able to make an emergency stop

The ABS light will also stay on if your brake fluid level is low.

Check your vehicle owner’s manual for more information.

Take your vehicle directly to Andy’s Transmission and Automotive in Moose Jaw to have your ABS system checked and repaired.

Your automotive brakes are one of the most important mechanisms in the whole vehicle. While on the road brakes play a vital role in your safety and that of your family.

Check the service schedule outlined in your vehicle manual to see when you should have your brakes checked. We recommend that you have your brakes inspected once per year. Brakes aren’t something to put off.

Squealing, vibration when you apply the brakes is an indicator that something is not working properly. If you push your brake pedal and your brakes feel “spongy” or “soft” that’s an indicator that your brakes require immediate attention. Such symptoms often lead to more expensive repairs when left untreated. Changing your brake pads, when needed, saves wear on your rotors. Brake pads are much cheaper to replace than your rotors.

Give Andy’s a call (306) 692 4255 to book an appointment to have your brakes checked.

What Does This Warning Mean? Fog Indicator Warning Light

In order to help drivers be safe in bad weather conditions, auto manufacturers include fog lights on certain models of vehicles. These lights are positioned lower than your normal driving lights to prevent any reflected light from coming back at you. Fog also tends to hover above the ground, so these fog lights will likely be able to reach further than your regular headlights.

If it’s foggy outside, then you should be using the fog lights to help your visibility. However, many drivers forget to turn them off once the weather has cleared up. Like any light bulb, fog lights have a limited lifespan and leaving them on for too long will quickly burn them out and next time it’s foggy, your fog lights may not be functional.

When you start the car, check the dash before you set off to make sure the fog lights aren’t on unnecessarily. This way you will not burn out the lights prematurely and you’ll be able to use them next time the weather isn’t looking too great.

If this lights up on your dashboard, trust Andy’s. We can help!
